Traditionally, for the twenty-first time on April 27, 2015, in the conference hall of Hotel “Bushi”, on the occasion of the celebration of the Intellectual Property Day, organized by the State Office for Industrial Property of the Republic of Macedonia, the highly prestigious award “Patent of the Year - 2014” was solemnly awarded.
The official ceremony was attended by eminent guests and representatives who are directly or indirectly involved in the process of protection of intellectual property rights.
The guests were addressed with a welcoming speech by the Deputy Director of the Office, Mr. Mite Kostov, who also spoke about the latest activities in the field of industrial property, which increasingly harmonize the work of the Office with world and European norms.
At the beginning, within the framework of the program under the motto “Choose for Music”, the message of the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, Mr. Francis Gurry, was conveyed, who spoke about the importance of creating fair contracts for musicians, creators and performers in the digital economy.
The awarding of the prestigious award “Patent of the Year - 2014” gave a special note to the event. The award “Patent of the Year - 2014” was solemnly awarded to the inventor Joti Popovski for the invention “Biological filter for nitrates”, by the Deputy Director of the Institute, Mr. Mite Kostov. The invention offers a new constructive and technological solution that removes nitrates from drinking water using anaerobic fermentation. The inventor Joti Popovski also spoke about the idea and the benefits of the technical installation of the invention.
The purpose of holding the event was to promote discussion about the role of intellectual property in encouraging the creation of innovations and artistic creations.
